The youngest Forum staff member, Abigail is the part-time provincial co-ordinator for the Western Cape. She has been an activist from a very early age and has a particular interest in children and human rights – one that was fuelled by family circumstances in the Apartheid era many years ago.
Determined to be a leader and role-model, during her Grade 9 year Abigail joined the Junior City Council (JCC) in Cape Town – a service that would last three years. Through the JCC, Abigail also became involved with the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (IDASA) and was selected as one of three learners to work on the Children Participating in Governance CBU project in 2005 / 2006.
In 2005, Abigail also joined Africa Unite, and was part of their human rights programme – working with refugees mainly – for four fruitful years. She went on to become head girl at her high school, has assisted Black Sash with the Child Support Grant petition, and facilitated the first human rights workshop in Mitchell’s Plain.
Abigail is currently completing her BA Social Work degree at UNISA, and continues to set a superb example for both young and old.
On a personal note: One of four children, Abigail enjoys reading, singing, watching movies and attending community events. She’s also The Forum’s celebrity staff member, having appeared on SABC 2’s popular music show, Noot vir Noot.
