 David Hellberg is currently completing a 5-month internship at the National Welfare Forum in Johannesburg, as part of his final year of International and Intercultural Social Work at Mid Sweden University (http://www.miun.se ). The internship serves as a mandatory element of his degree, which he will complete in January 2010. Alongside his studies, David has been engaged in the Swedish Red Cross (http://www.redcross.se ) as a facilitator for a project involving the rights of asylum seekers in Sweden. That and his previous job at the Swedish Migration Board (http://www.migrationsverket.se ) as a migration officer have added to his experience of and interest in working within a multicultural environment. David has also been working part-time as an assistant to physically and mentally challenged people. David is the second student from the Mid Sweden University to complete an internship at the National Welfare Forum and follows in the footsteps of Ida Krantz . The university has a strong international profile and the students of international and intercultural social work are obliged to complete an international internship to obtain their degree. Many students also choose to participate in student exchange programmes around the world. Last year David studied community engagement and developmental social work in India for duration of 5 months. David’s work at the National Office will focus on policy engagement, the core business of the organisation and he has already started on a review of the existing policy positions of the National Welfare Forum, including the infamous Policy on Financial Awards to Service Providers (PFASP) . David will also deliver policy engagement workshops amongst members and participate in the day-to-day work of the National Welfare Forum. Bookmark this article:          |
