Joan van Niekerk
In this clip, Joan van Niekerk, a veteran of the fight against child abuse in South Africa and beyond talks to David Hellberg about why volunteers in the social services sector in SA should be included in the proposed Social Services Professions Bill.
It is common knowledge that in South Africa and many other places, it is volunteers who make a arguably the largest contribution to daily care tasks for people infected and affected by HIV & AIDS, orphans and vulnerable children and older persons. Volunteers are what have been keeping the social services sector going in terms of daily care and it is unacceptable that the state now wants to exclude those same people from the recognition they deserve as caregivers.
Watch Skwatta Kamp make an appeal for the Rolling Stones to come to South Africa to raise awareness of child abuse and maybe even raise some money for ~Childline to continue it’s excellent work.
