funding-workshopsFunding Workshops for CBOs in KZN

Vryheid, in Kwa Zulu Natal was the venue for the next in the series of workshops to help CBOs access funding from the NLDTF. Forty people turned up to attend the workshop hosted by the Community Law & Rural Development Centre at the Vryheid Library. Less than ten percent of the attendants have tried applying to the Lottery for funding before and even less have ever received funding. Many did not have the required supporting documents to make an application and the major concern with those that had applied seemed to be the fact that they have not received feedback of their previous applications. The comments and questions focused a lot on the supporting documentation and the application process. Some members plan to ready themselves so that they can apply in the next round of applications. The attendants also committed themselves promised to share the information gained at the workshop with other organisations in their communities and to work together to make sure that they help each get funding.
Empangeni was the site for the 5th workshop on applying for funding to NLDTF, hosted by SANCA Zululand under the directorship of Lynn Williams; who helped arrange one of this series’ most successful workshops at the Empangeni Library.  The workshop was attended by 60 participants most of them having the idea that the workshop will be facilitated by staff members of the Lottery. The workshop took off with fiery questions and comments directed to the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund. It was made clear at this time that the purpose of the workshop was to try get eligible organisations to apply in this round and that if the communities and organisations feel this strongly, they try to engage the NLDTF on the matter. There seemed to be a good number of participants who were in position to apply this round and were willing to assist other organisations. Other organisations seemed to be more hopeful for next call for proposals. Empangeni appears to have a thriving civil society and The Forum is pleased have played a part in strengthening this community’s capacity to access funding from the NLDTF.
