Gert studied Law and Political Sciences at the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) in Johannesburg and completed a post graduate program in Defence Management at the University of Witwatersrand (WITS). He also completed a National Certificate in Police Administration through the South African Police Services. Gert is a specialist in “Child Abuse Management”, with extensive experience in policing crimes against children. He served in the Child Protection Unit of the South African Police services in Johannesburg, where he inter alia acted as Media Liaison. He also lectured extensively to other police units on ‘child abuse’. In 1996 Gert founded the Bethany House Trust, a children’s charity, currently operating a Gauteng based Children’s home consisting out of a ‘baby sanctuary’ for HIV/AIDS babies, a home which cared for almost 500 orphaned & vulnerable children. In 1999 he also founded the Child in Crisis Foundation (SA), which currently facilitates services to children in the areas of welfare, early childhood education, and primary health and NGO governance. He also co-founded the Ray of Hope project in Zimbabwe. Gert is currently as serving treasurer on executive committee of The Forum.

Gert is a 44 year old South African male, he has been married to his wife for just over 19 years and have four sons aged 6 years to 18 years. He’s served in the South African Police Service for 13 years, in the rank of Detective Inspector.
