We are glad to inform you that the planning for the 17th ICSD Biennial International Symposium is going along extremely well. The IASSW, IFSW, and ICSW sponsored this event as partnering organizations. Let us give you some updates regarding our 17th International Symposium of ICSD in Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 3-7, 2011. The main theme of the symposium is “Good Governance: Building Knowledge for Social Development Worldwide” followed by relevant sub themes that cover wide range of development issues and challenges. It is also our distinct honor and pleasure to inform you that Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank has agreed to give keynote address for the symposium. Mr. Stefan Priesner, Country Director of the United Nations Development Program Bangladesh will address the plenary session on Reviewing the Millennium Development Goals and the UN role in promoting social development globally. We have selected the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka hotel from a list of competitive hotels as our venue for the symposium. You need to book your accommodation directly by visiting their web site at (www2.panpacific.com). The negotiated rate for lodging with this five star hotel is US$110 (US$142 inclusive of service charge and VAT). This will include complimentary breakfast, internet connection in the room, and roundtrip airport transfer by shuttle service. Regarding conference tours, a four day post conference tour to visit Cox’s Bazar, the longest unbroken sea-beach in the world, and another four day trip to visit Sunderban, the world’s largest mangrove forest in Bangladesh has been organized. There will be a one day tour to visit tea gardens in the hilly areas of Sylhet district in the north-eastern part of Bangladesh, and a number of full days sightseeing in and around Dhaka city. The Silver Wave Tours Ltd. (www.silverwavetours.com) will conduct all theses tours, and you need to sign up for these tours with them prior to Bangladesh visit.
