The Centre for Social Development in Africa is pleased to invite you to its FINAL quarterly seminar for 2009. Social citizenship and redistribution of resources develops in the context of the so-called ‘welfare mix’ between the state, the market and the family/community. Each of those institutions has it advantages and disadvantages. Too much involvement of one of those institutions results in an unbalanced social support. Nevertheless the state appears to be the only institutional arena for equalizing gender relations. What are the implications for social support for HIV positive people if family relations are dominant, the market cares less and the state is a weak and fragile partner? Lessons from research in several South African NGO’s on the potential de-gendering aspects of social support will be presented Please RSVP for catering purposes.
