LAUNCH OF THE 2011PACSA FOOD PRICES REPORT
PACSA invites you to join us for the public launch of our 2011 Food Price Report on Monday, 17 October 2011 from 11.00 to 1.00 p.m. at the Msunduzi Municipal Library Auditorium, 260 Church Street, Pietermaritzburg from 11.00am to 12.30pm.
The launch of our 2011 Food Price Report coincides with World Food Day on the 16th October.
PROGRAMME
- Documentary on the increase of food prices globally (10 min)
- Key note address by Prof. Ayalneh Bogale, Director of the African Centre for Food Security, University of KwaZulu-Natal
- Release of the PACSA 2011 Food Price Report – Mervyn Abrahams, PACSA Deputy Director: Programmes
- Screening of the new film by La Via Campesina on the struggle for food sovereignty (20 min)
- Discussion and Interaction
PACSA has been tracking the price of a basket of food products in Pietermaritzburg since 2006 and since 2008 has released an annual report that analyzes the trend of food price fluctuation in Pietermaritzburg. The report also critically analyze the impact of rising food prices on the ability of households to access sufficient and nutritious food, the connection between insufficient nutrition and poverty, and the interplay between nutrition and long term social and economic development.
