Born and still residing in sunny Port Elizabeth, John is the Forum’s provincial co-ordinator for the Eastern Cape. With quite a diverse career behind him – including at Shell SA, in irrigation and even in advertising – John entered the NGO sector in 1992 when offered a CEO position at the Nelson Mandela Metro Community Chest . After serving on the Strategic Management Team for the formulation of the Department of Social Development (DoSD ) for the Eastern Cape in Bhisho, John joined the National Welfare Forum in 1994. He served as chair of the Eastern Cape Forum and member of the Provincial Management Committee until taking up the position of coordinator in 2007. John is a busy man, taking a special interest in providing support for local NPOs and CBOs and acting as a conduit between the private sector and the provincial DoSD. He has also been instrumental in the formation of district forums in the Eastern Cape including in Nelson Mandela Metro, Amatola (East London) and the Eastern Region (Mthatha). Apart from his Forum commitments, John also chairs the board of the Algoa Bay Council for the Aged , serves on the board of the Community Chest, is on the fund-raising committee of the E.P Children’s Home and is a member and former president of the Algoa Bay Rotary Club . On a personal note: A devout family man, John is married and has six children and nine grandchildren. To keep up with them all, he enjoys walking, hiking and gym. Other than that, his lips are sealed. |
