Monday 18th July is Mandela Day. Mandela Day is a call to action for people everywhere to take responsibility for making the world a better place, one small step at a time, just as Nelson Mandela did. Alberton Child Welfare spend every moment of their existence trying to better the lives of families and children at risk of abuse in the communities of Thokoza, Greenfields, Eden Park, Tina Zonke and the Greater Alberton Area in which they serve; their main objective being the care of children. Many needs get put aside due to limited resources and Mandela Day is the perfect opportunity for willing members of the community to assist this worthy organization. Child Welfare Alberton has identified some needs that we hope a local business or two would like to take on as their contribution to Child Welfare on Mandela Day. • The main office roof is in need of sealing and painting • Downpipes are needed on the back of the building to prevent continuous flooding of the garage in the rainy season • A new door is needed on the back of the Shelter house next to the office • Our signage is old and faded and in need of a fresh, bright replacement. • We need to erect palisade fencing along the front of our building and any contributions toward this would be hugely appreciated These things are all important for our organization, but funding is provided and used for the benefit of the children in our care and under our supervision. We have received a large amount of adult clothing which our staff has suggested we sell for the purpose of purchasing much needed baby milk formula. We thought it would be nice for some volunteers to coordinate and run a jumble sale. This could take place over the weekend before or after Mandela Day. Donations are always welcome at Child Welfare. Your contribution to our organization could be in the form of a simple donation which will go a long way. • Baby formula • Blankets • Good condition children’s clothing We are setting up a very exciting project making use of a debit order system in which sponsors will be asked to contribute R20 a month for 6 months. We will be running our first batch debit order at the end of July. If you would like more info, or if you would like to volunteer for any of the abovementioned ideas, please get in touch with Robert Cunningham Robert Cunningham Board of Management 082 265 4357 011 434 0151 This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it |
