In February 2007 The Forum co-sponsored and participated in the Limpopo Masibambisane Summit, which brought together some 300 HIV and AIDS practitioners active in the Limpopo Province.
Delegates identified gaps and best practices within the sector, and reached agreement on how the different stakeholders could best work together to turn the tide of the HIV and AIDS pandemic.

Masibambisane, meaning “we all come together” was a name determined by WC-NACOSA for the first large-scale summit the Western Cape Networking AIDS Community of South Africa (WC-NACOSA) called in December 2002 for all NGOs, CBOs and key government stakeholders in the Western Cape.
After the success of the first summit this concept then extended to Masibambisane 2, which was held in November 2004 in the Western Cape and is now being rolled out in all provinces, under the Mentoring Resource Network (MRN) through its provincial implementing partners.
Aim:
Expanding the HIV and AIDS and TB response, through promoting capacity, building links and networks for greater cooperation and coordination amongst NGOs and CBOs in the Limpopo Province.
Objective:
To host 4-day HIV&AIDS and TB capacity building summit for NGOs and CBOs in the Provinces to:
- Develop and share in a joint strategy and plan of action for the provinces in responding to HIV and AIDS;
- Improve coordination and cooperation with increased networking;
- Provincial audit and mapping of services being rendered in the provinces;
- Share best practice, making the links, setting standards and minimum criteria for service deliver;
- Identify gaps and creative developmental responses that require further support & finance;
- Promote district coordination and multi-sectoral HIV and AIDS strategies at a local level; and
- Provide skills development opportunities for NGOs and CBOs attending.
