Pump Aid CEO Vacancy - Deadline 20 October Print E-mail
Pump Aid provides water and sanitation to households in rural Zimbabwe, Malawi and Liberia. Globally, about 1 billion people lack access to safe water, and in Africa the figure is about 300 million people. An estimated 4,000 people - mostly children - die every day from drinking unsafe water. Pump Aid has already provided safe, clean water to 1 million people, and has installed close to 5,000 low-cost, sustainable hand pumps since its inception 11 years ago. In this time, its income has grown exponentially from essentially a "kitchen table" charity, to a professionally run outfit with income of over US$ 3 million per annum, and over 100 employees. The charity has been recognised for its innovative and low cost approach with several awards, including from a World Bank prize, and the St Andrews Prize for the environment. Its funding comes from a combination of bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies, and long-standing private sector partners.

The board feels Pump Aid is on the verge of another period of exciting growth and impact, and we look forward to reaching another million people in the coming years, potentially in more countries, and with new approaches to the way we work.

We are looking for a visionary CEO to lead the organization through this new exciting growth phase. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in leadership and general management in a complex organization in either the not-for-profit, government or private sector. Remuneration will be fully commensurate with the experience of the individual. The position will be based in South Africa, with travel around and outside Africa.
