| Reminder: Invitation To An Exploratory Meeting |

Dear fellow-NGO or CBO leader! REMINDER: INVITATION TO AN EXPLORATORY MEETING Is your organisation struggling to make ends meet? Have you struggled to convince local stakeholders of the vital nature of your organisation’s work? If yes, you might be interested in what this letter has to say. I have had a number of discussions with different NGO leaders, and I firmly believe that if we stand together and undertake a few quite simple activities, we can raise awareness about the vital role of the NGO sector in the City and begin to shift mindsets about the importance of taking joint responsibility for the prosperity of all people if we are to build a prosperous city. I would like to invite you to an initial meeting to explore some ideas:
downstairs at the PCB offices,
on Wednesday 5th October, from 10.30-12.30 (max), with refreshments sponsored by PCB.
(PCB offices are in the Royal Showgrounds, almost immediately in front of you as you drive in the main entrance on Commercial Rd.)
At PACSA we believe that a society cannot be prosperous as long as there are still those in its local communities who live in abject poverty; it cannot be healthy as long as there are those who cannot access proper health care; and it cannot grow as long as there are still youth who are not accessing a decent education. While of course it is the responsibility of Government to provide the infrastructure and the basic services, every sector has to make a contribution. And we also have to take seriously the potential contribution that even (and especially) the poorest and most marginalised can make to the wellbeing of the community as a whole if given the chance. When raising these matters in discussion with Cllr Yusuf Bhamjee and Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business CEO Melanie Veness and others in the CSO sector, it has become clear that:
I am pleased to tell you that PCB is supportive of this attempt to bring us together to consider some simple ways to bring about the mindshifts we need in the city. The idea is NOT to try to form a new structure, but to open ways we as CSOs can collaborate to improve the profile of our work and that it continues even in the light of the many challenges we face. As a first contribution, Melanie has offered for the PCB to host a CSO webpage where we can showcase our work, as a reference point for CSI officials as they develop their social investment programmes. We will discuss this as well as other ideas brought by CSOs at the proposed meeting. Draft Agenda:
Please contact me at PACSA if you would like to discuss anything further. Feel free to forward this letter to any CSOs you think might be interested.
