Placing Poor People at the Heart of Anti-Poverty Policy Design and Monitoring
30 November 2009, Room 506, D Ring, University of Johannesburg (Kingsway Campus)
In the midst of the current concentration on new policy making and planning around poverty alleviation and eradication, how can the poor themselves be involved in these deliberations? Lack of Voice is a characteristic of poverty, and many people assume the role of talking on behalf of poor people.
Situated in a specific conversation being held by civil society around the content and processes of the proposed national Anti-Poverty strategy, this question is necessary and perhaps overdue.
You are accordingly invited to a one day roundtable meeting that aims to discuss the politics and implications of power, privilege, accountability and modalities which are called in to play as we identify ways that exist of enabling the needs, views and insights of people living in poverty and destitution to be part of the design of successful interventions.
The Meeting will be held at the University of Johannesburg on 30 November between 10 am and 3 pm. Limited resources are available to cover travel costs of people living outside of Gauteng.
Please RSVP before 25 November 2009 to Fortunate on 011 833 0161/2 or
