Social Service Professions Bill Workshop, Bloemfontein Print E-mail
professions-bill-workshopThe second workshop to discuss the Social Service Professions Bill, collaboration between the National Welfare Forum (NWF) and the Children’s Institute, was held in Bloemfontein with over fifty participants. The workshop was held at Legae Day Care Centre and arranged with the help of Mrs Dibolelo Modito, a member of the NWF
Ms Lucy Jamieson and Ms Khululwa Seyisi facilitated the workshop with the support of Thato Modise and David Hellberg.

The workshop began with group discussions where the participants described the role they play in their work as social service providers, the challenges they face on a daily basis, the challenges they have with government and other professions they work with. The majority of the participants were Early Childhood Development (ECD) Practitioners and shared common problems such as being undermined by other professionals, not being recognised as educators, not having a stable income, etc.
Khululwa then gave her presentation explaining the Social Service Professions Bill. The participants seemed to grasp the information well as they were able to engage in it and questioned why the Bill had certain restrictions and how unfair being excluded was.

Lucy's presentation enlightened the participants about the importance of their work and encouraged them to give comments about their views of the Bill and whatever they might want to be added or amended according to their professions needs.

The participants asked for guidance about how they could dispute what they disagreed with in the Bill and asked to be informed and updated about the dates for submissions of comments to parliament.
